Bee Propolis, also known as “bee glue”, is made by honeybees by mixing tree resins, beeswax, essential oils, pollen, botanical compounds and their own saliva. Propolis comes from the Greek pro meaning “in defense of” and polis meaning “city”, making the literal meaning “in defense of the “city” or “hive”, the bees’ city. It is used by bees to seal holes and cracks in the hive to strengthen the internal structure and protect the hive from intruders and infection. Research has shown propolis to contain over 300 natural compounds making it a powerful protector for bees and people!
Propolis is composed of hundreds of natural compounds, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, amino acids, natural steroids as well as tree resin, beeswax, essential oils and pollen. The combination of each of these components, gives propolis numerous applications, including anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti fungal, anti ulcer, anticancer, and immunomodulatory properties for treating a wide variety of health concerns. Simply stated, propolis can be used for a lot of ailments from minor illnesses, sore throats to skin irritations like acne, eczema to wound healing such as cuts, scrapes and even for certain types of cancers. It’s one impressive substance and why we have chosen to use propolis in most of our Bee Groomed products!
Beeswax, also known as Cera Alba, is used by bees to build and strengthen the hive cells, protecting the hive and newborn bees from infection and contamination. The bees make wax by secreting it from special glands, then chew it up and use it to build their honeycombs where they store honey and their young.
Fun Fact – Bees need to eat up to 6 to 8 pounds of honey just to create 1 pound of wax!
Beeswax is rich in vitamin A, antioxidants, fatty acids, and esters. It is also a great anti-inflammatory and antiseptic which promotes wound healing and decreases itching from dermatitis, psoriasis, dry skin. Offering soothing, moisture retaining properties to create a breathable barrier that seals in moisture and protects your lips, hair, skin, and reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Often used as a natural thickening agent in lotions, balms and cosmetics and to make natural candles and chewing gum, beeswax is another incredible gift from the hive!
Raw Honey is a pure, unfiltered and unpasteurized sweetener made by bees from the nectar of flowers. In its natural form, raw honey contains pollen, vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants and enzymes. It may also have a cloudy appearance and vary in color or texture, depending on the type of flowers from which bees collected the nectar. Additionally, unfiltered and unpasteurized means it has not been processed or heated. When honey is filtered and heated, it loses all its nutrients, antioxidants and enzymes, meaning it is no different than processed sugar. At Bee Groomed, we strain our honey to remove bits of wax and debris, but it is NEVER filtered or heated, ensuring that the numerous benefits remain.
Raw honey has A LOT of known benefits! With antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory properties, raw honey is good for a variety of natural remedies including treating seasonal allergies, soothing a sore throat, healing wounds, reducing inflammation, acne, eczema and of course, as a sweet treat! In addition, honey is a healthy energy source to lower weight and cholesterol, boosts immunity and is an amazing moisturizer and exfoliator for your skin!

We strive to keep our ingredients 100% natural. Our formulas are intended to be safe for the whole family and for use on all skin types. Thus, we aim to keep our products at a neutral pH of 7 or slightly higher. Our ingredients are plant-based, natural and have been tested for the upmost quality. The ingredients used in our products for their preservative qualities are no different. We use Aspen bark extract and grapefruit seed extract in the products that contain water or may be exposed to water to protect against bacteria and fungus. Typically, preservatives are used to extend the shelf life of products and to prevent growth of bacteria and fungus. Most commercial products, even those claiming to be “natural” typically contain chemical preservatives such as parabens, phenoxyethanol and benzoic acid which can be irritating and even dangerous for you and your skin. Here at Bee-Groomed our products have a shelf life of up to 1 year with proper storage and handling. Our products are made to order to ensure the highest quality, natural product possible.
